Fit by 14 | Week 6 | Eating on the Go

Hey Y'all! I knew that I was going to have a crazy busy week this week, and wasn't going to be able to schedule enough blogs to cover the whole week, so I asked Heather to step in today and fill in for my weekly Fit by 14 series! Heather has a TON of street cred what it comes to eating healthy and working out! She has run 2 (or more!) 1/2 marathons, completed at least one Triathlon, and has dabbled in some vegan/vegetarianism, so I felt like she would be the PERFECT person to fill in for me today!

HEALTHY EATING ON THE GO!

Hey y'all, this is Heather and I blog over at From Here to There.  In case you're interested, some recent posts of mine that I really enjoyed writing are the Disney Pre-Race Taste Re-cap, 8 reasons I love living in Mississippi, and My first triathlon!  Now keep on reading for some great lunch ideas!

I don't know about you, but for the longest time I struggled with healthy eating on the go.  I hated pre-made sandwiches because my bread would get soggy.  The most creative thing I could come up with for a side was a bag of chips.  I always insisted on having some kind of dessert... a little debbies snack cake or a piece of candy.  It was a serious struggle, y'all!

I'm also not a huge fan of those frozen meals that you can take to work and heat up.  The sodium is outrageous!  They are never really that delicious... I mean, seriously!  Needless to say, healthy lunches use to be so difficult for me.

I think I finally figured it out though.  In case you haven't, I thought it'd be great to share!  Back during the summer, I posted this photo on instagram with my lunch.  I got a comment about how great it looked and that they needed more ideas like this for their lunches.

Here are 10 Healthy on the go lunch ideas for you!  I have the "main" portion listed and then at the end, you'll see a long rambling list of side ideas.
1) Rice Cakes w/ almond butter
2) Boiled Eggs - bring along a pack of mustard and mayo, some toast and create an egg sandwich
3) Wraps - turkey & cheese, ham & cheese, peanut butter & jelly, chicken Caesar salad
4) Pretzels or Pita with Hummus
5) Turkey & Cheese Everything Bagel
6) Summer Salad - keep everything separate until ready to eat & then shake together.  Include nuts, berries, veggies, seeds & a summery dressing.
7) Veggie Pizza Bagels
8) Ritz crackers (low sodium or low fat) with turkey & cheese slices
9) Sushi
10) Chips & Dips - think salsa, guacamole, black bean.  Don't just have one.

Healthy Sides: mixed berries, yogurt parfaits (yogurt, berries, nuts), vegetables and hummus, peanut butter pretzels, veggie chips, granola bars, string cheese, apples & peanut butter, apple sauce, other fruits & veggies(pears, plums, peaches, celery, cucumbers), pasta salad, homemade muffins, and olives.

This is obviously not all of your options, but maybe this can be a good start for you!
Here are the most important things to remember:
1) Figure out what works for you!
2) Get creative so that you're not bored by the end of the week with the same old thing.
3) Invest in some bento boxes or divided containers to help store your on-the-go lunch.
4) Pinterest is your best friend when it comes to finding new creative ways to enjoy a healthy on-the-go lunch!

I hope you discovered something new that you can try from my list above!

Feel free to check out my blog and other social media below!  I hope you'll stop by and say hey, letting me know you came from Hillary's blog.  Have a wonderful day!

Thanks Heather for filling in for me today! I WILL be back tomorrow, and I KNOW that you are going to be crazy busy trying to get ready for Thanksgiving, but I am going to be revealing a secret that I have been keeping for MONTHS now, and have gone to great lengths to keep it a secret, including several straight up lies, and a lot of scheming! There will hopefully even be a video for you to watch! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you'll probably get a sneak peak! I promise, you won't want to miss out on this! photo Signature_zps2937fcf1.png
